7/10/25 Fishing Report
We hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and many fish were caught. The chums are in thick, and the king fishing has really slowed down. Lena still has fish here and there, but you need to pick through all the chums to find those kings. The nice part is lately the chums we had been seeing are nice and bright, so they fight hard and taste ok too. Sheep Creek, AML, and Lena are all good spots for chums. If you are after some nice bright humpies, then we recommend trying either by the Shrine or out the road in Echo Cove.
The Dolly Varden are really starting to stage in freshwater now so when the water levels aren't too high its worth checking out your favorite creek in town. Try using flies like Mini Dolly Llamas, AK Clousers, or Honey Holes. If you are throwing flies, focus on the slower and deeper pools. It's close to the egg drop, so make sure you have your beads with you as well. When fishing beads look for runs and good salmon spawning gravel. We like 8mm beads for low and clear water and 10mm beads for higher water.
As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports. If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way! You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com. Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release. Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.
See you on the water!
